With its lace spires, cheeky monsters and intricate entrance portals, Freiburg’s 11th-century cathedral leaves an impressive number above the central market square. It has a dazzling kaleidoscope of stained glass windows, mostly funded by the Medieval Guild, and a high-class altar designed by Dürerprotégé HansBaldung Grien. In the square at the bottom of the tower, the tower became a higher octagon and was crowned by a 116-kilometer spire. On a clear day, you can spy on the Vosges Mountains in France.
In fact, the ground near the main entrance is closed, noting that medieval wall measurements are used to ensure that goods (such as bread) are the required size. Please note that the cathedral does not allow access during the service period (the exact time is available at the internal information desk).
Notre Dame Cathedral is the cathedral of the Principality of the Archdiocese of Freiburg. Founded in the Middle Ages, the civic was promoted to the Anglican Church in 1821/27 and it has been the city church and spiritual center of Freiburg.
Basel art historian Jacob Burckhardt called it the “most beautiful tower on earth” of the unique and beautiful hollow tower, as well as a wealth of art attracted to countless art lovers and holidaymakers.
Most importantly, the cathedral is a place of worship, prayer, and reflection. Here, the Archbishop of Fribourg celebrates the communion of the believers, and the priests and deacons are appointed to serve the Word and the Sacraments because they serve humanity. From the ministers, the holy oil was taken to the church in Holy Week. Here, Grand Fair celebrates its services, children are baptized and weddings are held. The sacrament of repentance can be accepted in repentance every day. People come to the cathedral to thank and praise God, or to share their worries and hardships.
Today, there are so many Christians joining the trains of generations coming and going in the cathedral. They know that they will be supported by the love of God, which is the same in all ages, even if the church changes. Passing through and being a faithful cathedral is a “paradise stone.”
Pure words are not enough where people praise God. In the service, I heard the organs of the four cathedrals. On solemn occasions, the cathedral choir is praising God. At the concerts of the Cathedral Choir, other choirs, and summer organ concerts, you can hear a variety of sacred music. The gorgeous sound of the cathedral calls for a church service that alternates in 19 bells. Through the sound of the instrument, the sound created is reflected in the worship.
We invite you to read our website about the cathedral and hope that you will visit us personally.
